Outdoor on a Dime

Welcome to Doing Outdoors on a Dime!

I was looking for things that were inexpensive and easy to do in my area. I live outside of Raleigh, NC, in the center of the state and can be at the beach in 90 minutes, or in the mountains in 120 minutes. I can be in National Forests or in State Parks in a matter of minutes. But with all these options around me, I was not sure about the best way to go about trying to get started in the activities that I wanted to do.

A little about me: I am a married father of two adult children, with two adult step-children as well. Our children are located throughout the country in various stages of their own lives and families, so time being with them is a commodity. My wife is an awesome artist, and although we are happy doing things together, the outdoors is not really one of them. She does glamping very well, and we do try to go as often as our schedules allow.

I loved the outdoors when I was growing up, and through my life I have lived in some wonderful places that allowed me time outdoors. I do not claim to be an expert at anything. I just wanted a place to share content, links, and ideas for people like me: folks with limited time and resources because of jobs, family, and everyday life.
